Musk's first act should be to fire Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal
There is no equality when it comes to free speech rights on Twitter. Only certain voices are allowed to be heard at the exclusion of others because not all people are equal, according to Agrawal.
"The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence.”—Elon Musk
Musk warned of the danger that social media will break into far right wing and far left wing echo chambers.
Musk's first act should be to fire Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal.
Agrawal does not even believe in free speech rights. Agrawal said his company is “not to be bound by the First Amendment.” Instead, it regulates speech as “reflective of things that we believe lead to a healthier public conversation,” meaning only left-wing speech is allowed.
Agrawal added that Twitter’s goal is to “focus less on thinking about free speech” because “speech is easy on the internet.” “Most people can speak,” he explained. “Where our role is particularly emphasized is who can be heard.”
In other words, there is no equity or equality when it comes to free speech rights on Twitter. Only certain voices are allowed to be heard at the exclusion of others because not all people are equal, according to Agrawal.
As a Twitter shareholder, at least until the Musk takeover is complete tomorrow, I support Musk's plan to bring free speech back on social media. Progressive liberal executives and employees who don't agree with that principle will be shown the door. There is no negotiation and only one word is required: Leave.
I posted this on Twitter. For over 9 years Twitter has restricted (shadow banned/throttled?) the views of my posts to almost nothing. In other words, I was one of the voices they didn’t want to hear. Discrimination of opinions cannot be allowed in a free society.
Elon Musk is leading the cavalry charge that will force social media to stop the dangerous attempts to influence how we think—and vote.
