Pork and Betrayal: The CR Debacle
Congressional bloat and backroom deals strike again. A massive spending bill, rushed through with no time to read, exposes who stands with the people—and who sells them out.
The continuing resolution (CR) bill is dead on arrival. It’s a 1,547-page pork-laden monstrosity. Released late Wednesday, it demands a Friday deadline to avoid a government shutdown before the holiday recess. The bill maintains current spending levels and raises the debt ceiling, deferring major fiscal challenges—and Biden's debt and deficit problem—into President-elect Donald Trump's term.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, who once opposed last-minute, unwieldy bills no one has time to read, now champions its passage, drawing sharp criticism from conservative Republicans and voices like Elon Musk. With a vote on his speakership looming in January, Johnson’s wavering resolve and perceived betrayal of his principles may jeopardize his position. Meanwhile, Democrats refuse any spending cuts and continue pushing for even greater expenditures.
With a clear mandate to eliminate Washington’s bloated, inefficient, and corrupt practices—such as CRs passed without proper review—Trump and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team wield social media as a powerful tool to hold Congress accountable. They have already begun raising hell over these backroom deals, and Republicans supporting the bill face credible threats of being primaried in two years.
Republicans will have fewer seats and an even slimmer margin in the House next year. If they can’t unite now to stop this madness, they certainly won’t be able to next year.
